About Links to Learning
Aspire NSW operates two Links to Learning projects that have an overall focus on outdoor recreation as a means of engaging young people. Aspire delivers adventure-based learning programs to teach personal development to young people from all sections of the community, especially those who are disadvantaged.
The Aspire NSW Links to Learning program supports year 9 and 10 students who are at risk of disengaging from education. Aspire activities use an outdoor adventure framework to assist individuals and groups achieve educational, vocational, social and recreational outcomes, reduce barriers to community participation and increase quality of life. The activities include bush-walking, abseiling, rock climbing, snorkeling, canoeing and camping all of which help participants develop life skills through experiential learning including their capacity to work as part of a team. Creating a safe learning environment aims to encourage student participation and personal growth, not just technical achievement.
Aspire NSW Links to Learning program was delivered to seven schools and a total of 45 young people across the Central West during 2018 – Canobolas Rural Technology High, Molong Central School and Orange High School.
